Deep in the Heart of Texas

Chris' first trip to Texas wouldn't have been completed without a stop at Whataburger...so that's where we began our trip.

We actually received an extra day of Texas fun thanks to the crazy weather in the northeast.  We originally planned to arrive in the wee hours of Saturday morning, but a cancelled flight had us in Dallas before noon on Friday.  Yeehaw for even more adventures in the Lone Star state.

Dinner at Gloria's, a Latin Tex Mex restaurant, with the McWhorter's was full of lots of laughs and some delicious tacos!  And we certainly didn't want to miss dessert - Flaming Honey Banana for two, please!

After resting up, we headed off to SouthFork Ranch for a tour of the famous Dallas TV show stomping grounds.  Neither of us watched the original Dallas series, but I loved the new series that recently...and abruptly...ended.  It was really cool to see the set of the scenes where JR died as well as check out Elena's cottage.  Chris and I had a lot of fun looking around!

We headed downtown after the tour for our main event of the weekend - the #sharpduet wedding!  Tarra was one of my bridesmaids in October so you know I couldn't have been more excited to celebrate with her and her new hubby, Evan!  The ceremony at Perkins Chapel on SMU's campus was perfect for the two of them with lots of personal touches.  And the reception was certainly a good time as well.

The next morning, we made our way over to Pecan Lodge for some BBQ goodness in Deep Ellum.  I loved this unique area of Dallas.  And even though we stood in line for a half hour and the order taker got our order wrong, we STILL loved the BBQ.  Good stuff for sure!

 

After stuffing our faces, we made our way to Dealey Plaza.  It was a gorgeous day to roam around the grassy knoll area before our tour began at The Sixth Floor Museum.  I had taken this tour before, but I was equally as fascinated with all the history and information that is provided.  We spent nearly three hours just taking it all in before making our way to the airport.

We arrived at the airport in plenty of time to savor our Nothing Bundt Cakes goodies.  Big thanks to the McWhorter's for suggesting this amazing spot to us.  My sweet tooth was in heaven!!  We picked up the lemon and carrot cake flavors though the decision was incredibly tough.  Both were phenomenal, but lemon was THE best without a doubt!

We are headed back to Dallas for another of my bridesmaid's nuptials.

#MarriedMaitlands: Our Engagement Party

In late June, Chris' parents threw us an engagement party in Long Island.  We were excited to officially celebrate with family and friends.

The party was at an event hall where a delicious dinner was served before we danced the night away!  We had a small group of friends that was able to join us in celebration.

The majority of the guests were Chris's family and friends of the family.  A number of them were not going to be able to make it to our wedding in Kentucky so it was a wonderful way for them to be able to celebrate with us.  My parents and some family from upstate New York were able to attend as well.  It was great to have each of them there to celebrate as well.

We had lots of delicious cake.  Chris' mom even arranged for a beautifully decorated rum cake to be made for us.

We had so much fun celebrating our upcoming nuptials!  And of course, it was exciting to open all the gifts at the end of the night as well.

Mini of the Month: March

Who doesn't love cookies and milk, right?  It's a classic favorite loved by all - young and old!  It had to be a winner in cupcake form...

I liked the unique look of the Cookies in Milk mini.  The vanilla chocolate chip cookie dough cake with chocolate chip cookie icing and a chocolate chip cookie brittle topping had all the right ingredients for a scrumptious treat!

Yum! This mini certainly proved to be all I imagined.  Next time, I'll have to try these with a big glass full of milk to wash them down!
