Our Honeymoon: Corfu, Greece

Our ship docked bright and early in Corfu, Greece.  We were set for an excursion that would allow us to tour Achilleon Palace as well as spend some time wandering around the town.

Our tour at Achilleon Palace was fascinating.  We listened to many interesting stories about mythology while checking out the beautiful grounds and statues.  The Palace was built by Empress of Austria Elisabeth of Bavaria (also known as Sisi).  It was designed with the mythical hero Achilles in mind.  The location provides a panoramic view of Corfu as well as much of the rest of the island.

We briefly stopped for a view of Mouse Island before continuing to the town.

Corfu is divided into two areas - the new fort area and the old fort area.  There is also a spectacular church in the center of the town.  We didn't have time to check out either fort, but we did go inside the church and wander through the town.

We tried various samples of local snack foods as roamed the streets.  We bought a bag of our favorite snack - Mandoles (peanuts with sesame seeds) - for the rest of the afternoon.  And, of course, I found a little cupcake shop!

We also stopped into a restaurant for a sweet crepe.  We went with chocolate and banana.  YUM!!

After returning to the ship, we spent some time just relaxing on our balcony soaking in the view and people watching.  The ship almost left a few people behind in Corfu!

Before it got dark for the night, we headed up to the mini-golf course for a round.  Chris barely managed to squeak out a win before we ventured back inside for some BINGO!!

That evening, we got all dressed up for the Captain's Welcome Dinner.  We met a lot of interesting folks as the night wore on....a pair of brothers from Mexico with a TV drama life (at least according to them) and a family from Dudley, England that grew up just around the corner from Chris' parents.  While the company was delightful, we eventually made our way to bed.  We had a full day in Athens ahead of us...
